The Botháns are on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, located on the outskirts of the coastal village of Castlerock. A 10-minute drive from Coleraine, approximately 40 minutes from Londonderry and just over an hour’s drive from Belfast. Dublin is 3 hours away.
Train services are available from Castlerock. Due to our rural location a car is advisable for your stay.

Yes — The Botháns has its own carpark with a space to leave your car for each cabin. You cannot drive right up to the cabins; both are a short walk from the carpark. A wheelbarrow to transport your belongings is provided. The walkways has low level lighting.
There currently is no EV charging point, but if you require charging during your stay please contact us.

Check in is between 4-7.30pm on day of arrival and 11am on day of departure.

Yes – Lir View cabin will sleep up to five people, with a bunkroom which sleeps three. For The Hideaway cabin a portable travel cot can be set up.
Please note neither of the cabins are ‘baby-proofed’ and the wood-burner and woodfired bath get very hot. Young children must be supervised at all times, especially if around the lakes.

No – The Botháns is currently not dog friendly.

We have tried to make our cabins as accessible as possible, however, due to our rural location there are limitations.
The Hideaway Cabin has been designed with accessibility in mind, with a flat wooden walkway and ramp access for those with mobility needs.

Yourself!
We have designed the cabins to have all the things you need for a perfect getaway. We provide bedding, towels, firewood and a kitchen to cook in, as well as outdoor firepit.
Tea, coffee, butter, milk and bread will all be provided when you arrive and the kitchen will also be stocked with homemade granola, ingredients for making s’mores and a few other treats. Tea towels, washing liquid and shower gel and shampoo are included.
We’d recommend some wellies for exploring round the lake and walking shoes to adventure along the spectacular Causeway Coast surroundings.

Yes – The cabins have an electricity supply and are heated with central heating. Logs and kindling will be provided for the wood-burner, firepit and outdoor bath. Additional supplies can be purchased during your stay if required.

Yes – both cabins have ensuite bathrooms with showers.

Yes – the cabins have WiFi and phone reception can be accessed via the wifi enabled services.
There are no TVs, but each cabin has its own projector to connect your device to.

No – the water has not been tested to check water quality so please do not swim in the lake.

There is a convenience store with petrol station in Articlave which is 3 miles away (5 minute drive). The seaside village of Castlerock is just over 4 miles away (8 minute drive). Coleraine town is 7 miles away (10 minutes drive) and Limavady is just over 8 miles away (12 minutes drive).
Please note: The Botháns is not located on public transport routes and a car would be advisable for transport during your stay.

We take full payment upfront at time of booking – this is refundable up to 3 weeks before your stay, minus a £25 cancellation fee.
If you cancel 3 weeks or less before your stay you will not be refunded.
